Physician - Human Performance Optimization (HPO)/Flight Med Job Overview:

  • Provide integration between human performance optimization and medical care in the SWTW, SW Prep, and SWTSs training courses

  • Supervise daily sick-call with the assistance of paramedic staff or other qualified medical personnel, integrate a knowledge of Air Force (AF) flight medicine standards into decisions and actions regarding care of SW trainees, provide overall supervision of contract paramedics in field training events, develop emergency and routine medical response protocols in conjunction with and approval from SW Medical Director and Operational Medicine Squadron.

  • Possesses the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care

  • Provide non-clinical mental health services. This may include assessment and selection, personnel recovery/reintegration, consultation, psycho-education, psychological skills training, transition support, risk management, performance enhancement/consultation, analysis of data from personality assessments testing and correlation to operational training assessment of students. If clinical or sub-specialty care is needed, the patient will be referred and managed at the 59th MDW to include all ADAPT and family advocacy referrals.

  • Supports flight medicine standards for medical clearances.
  • Conduct human performance activities to include: multidisciplinary evaluations, prehab conditioning such as strategic muscular, nutritional, and psychological strengthening, rapid rehabilitation, preventive screenings, and education that enhance performance and durability will be conducted in the combat conditioning center, HP lab and training sites.
  • Provide medical supervision to paramedics

Physician - Human Performance Optimization (HPO)/Flight Med Job Qualifications:

  • MD or DO
  • Experience: Urgent Care, Emergency Room care, Flight Medicine experience preferred
  • Board Certification:Family Medicine, Aerospace, Occupational or Preventative Medicine.
  • Licensure. Any US state. Active, current, unrestricted.
  • Clinical competency within the past two years
