As a Senior Software Engineer you will work with your manager and other leaders in the organization to lay out and own the architectural vision for a team of highly skilled software engineers in the localization space. You will solve complex business problems setting technical strategy and delivering solutions with little supervision. You will lead projects to improve engineering and operational excellence best practices for your team. In this specific role, you will get to work with the latest AWS technologies in the industry to build next-generation localization and translation solutions to benefit all of Amazon. In partnership with the rest of the International Technology group your team will assist in assuring operational excellence across all of Amazon's localization services. Key Responsibilities:
Act as a builder and architect, design, and develop world class, scalable distributed systems and operationalize them.
Interface with our internal customers to understand requirements, set priorities and communicate direction and progress.
Take on hard, ambiguous problems and articulate solutions that will be able to serve broader Amazon.
Help develop long-term technical and business strategies in the machine translation space.
Actively participate in recruiting, mentoring and coaching Software Development Engineers.


Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
8+ years of professional software development experience.
Proficiency in Java or C++, and object-oriented design skills.
Application architecture and design patterns. Experience serving as technical lead throughout the full software development lifecycle, from conception, architecture definition, detailed design, scoping, planning, implementation, testing to documentation, delivery and maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior software developers in all aspects of their engineering duties.
Knowledge of professional software engineering and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
Experience in development of distributed/scalable systems and high-volume transaction applications.


Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline.
10+ years industry experience as a Software Developer/Engineer.
Candidates must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated technical leadership.
Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly.
Ability to makes technical trade-offs between short term team needs and long term business needs.
Experience in leading development of complex software systems that have successfully been delivered to customers. Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, Service-oriented architectures (SOA), complexity analysis, and relational databases.
Experience communicating with users, software development engineering teams, Principal Engineering Community and management to collect requirements, describe software product features and technical designs.
Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
Multilingual (any language other than English)
Experience with localization and internationalization development
Strong business and technical acumen.
Deal well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly.
Ability to makes technical trade-offs between short term team needs and long term business needs.
